Student Congress

The University School Sunvitational Congress

We are looking forward to an exciting weekend of competition! Please make sure to adhere to the deadlines for congress as they are different from other events!

Congress registration is due on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 12 noon. This is to assure that chambers are balanced and can be released in time for students to prepare for the tournament. We will be accepting late additions in Congress until the  regular entry deadline, but they will be added into existing chambers. No legislation from late additions will be accepted.

All legislation must include the author and school AND follow NFL format.  Legislation should be mailed to skschappaugh@gmail.com.   Schools may submit as many pieces of legislation as they have students entered. Legislation must be submitted by a coach and must be in a word attachment. If a school has more than one piece of legislation, merge them into one document before sending! Legislation and chamber assignments will be made available as soon as possible. Legislation needs to follow the National Forensics League format. The legislation packet and chambers, along with tournament rules and procedures, will be posted on sunvite.tabroom.com.

Important information:

Preliminary rounds will consist of four sessions and will then break to one Super Congress on Saturday afternoon. The number of preliminary chambers will be determined by entry numbers. The number of students breaking to supers from each chamber will depend on the number of preliminary chambers. The number so students breaking will be limited to insure quality debate in supers.

If the number of prelim chambers necessitates a semifinal round, the fourth session will be eliminated in favor of having a semifinal round.

Congress Deadlines

Entries due: Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 12 noon if possible but no later than regular tournament deadline

Legislation due: Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 12 noon

Legislation and Chambers released: TBD.  Our goal is to release them via email before students go away for winter break.  However, it’s critically important that your students be told that the chamber assignments and legislation will be posted on the tournament website as soon as we can get it available. If the information is not released before they leave for break have them check the website to access it so they have time to properly prepare and are not rushed once they return.
